What if you got paid for playing dodgeball?

Makenzie Boltwood is the White City School's Physical Education teacher.  Ms. Boltwood is in her 8th year of teaching at White City.

Ms. Boltwood’s favorite part about our school is its small size.  She is able to build more meaningful relationships with students and get to watch them grow over the years. Ms. Boltwood says, “I appreciate being part of a community that values its students and works together to help them succeed.”

We wanted to know about Ms. Boltwood’s education. She attended Fort Hays State University for 1 and ½ years and then transferred to Emporia State for 3 ½ years, where she then graduated.

Ms. Boltwood wants to have an impact on students.  She hopes to have students develop a lifelong love for physical activity.  She also hopes they understand the importance of staying healthy.

There are challenges.  She wants every student to be engaged, even though every student has different interests and skills.

Another challenge is managing safety.  Having numerous kids doing activities at the same time can be dangerous, and managing safety is very important.

The last challenge is to help kids build confidence.  It’s true that not every student feels comfortable doing physical activity.  Helping them build confidence in what they are doing can be tricky.

Would you ever want to be a PE teacher?
