Every year, White City High School brings in two foreign exchange students. This year our students are Celian Van Bemten and Nabar Valbuena. We wanted to find out more about Celian.
Celian Van Bemten is an 18 year old foreign exchange student from the European country of Belgium. We asked Celian how many family members he has. He said, “I have a brother, a sister and my parents.” Then we asked him what his favorite foods were from both here and home. His favorite food from America is hamburgers. From his home in Belgium, he loves his french tacos.
We asked Celian about the difference between our school systems. Celian said, “We don't have sports at our schools in Belgium.” We decided to add some fun facts about him. He plays in a basketball club in Belgium that is very successful. It means that his day is busy because he has to play basketball after school and on the weekends. Conversely, Celian doesn't like taking tests in December and June to successfully pass the academic year.
Coach Denny Crable has “homed” these foreign exchange students for around 25 years. This year will be his last year. Crable helps in Track, Drivers Ed., with foreign exchange students and more.
Thank you for sharing with us, Celian!
