bread

If you smell something nice in the Elementary school, it might just be bread!

The White City Third Grade class recently did their annual ‘Bread in a Bag’ making experience. Not only do students learn to follow the directions of a process, but they also get to eat the final product.

The Bread in a Bag event is led by the Morris County Extension Office.  This year, the office has sent Deb Andres to assist in the ‘bread making process.’  She leads the students through each step.  Additionally, the parents, Senior boys, and grandparents help the third graders measure the right amount of each ingredient.

Students first mix the ingredients with their hands.  While the bread was still in the bags, students rolled and kneaded the bread into the shape of a loaf.

Third Grade teacher Mrs. Kari Hinkle has been doing Bread in a Bag for many years.  In fact, Mrs. Hinkle has lost count of how many years she's done Bread in a Bag.  She tells us, “I don't know. There was some lapse in extension agents, so bread wasn't made those years. I would say many years.”

While the bread is baking the third graders eat lunch.  When everything is done, the office ladies cut the extra loafs, and give them out to the helper students and the parents and the Senior boys.
