Third Grade is reading books! On Friday January 23, 2026 Mrs. Hinkle’s Third Grade class presented all they’ve read at the Third Grade Literacy Fair. Students set up their trifolds in the library.
The Literacy Fair is an opportunity to select a book and dig deep into all the themes and parts of the book. The Literacy Fair is also an excellent opportunity to practice organizational skills, project planning and public speaking. The students are tasked to provide information like the author, setting, main characters, conflict, plot and resolution of the book. Their trifold will also include the year the book was first published. Additionally, students are asked to provide the author’s purpose. Is the book more informative or entertaining?
The first place winner this year was Erin Effland with an excellent presentation on the book Mr. Popper's Penguins. The book, written by Richard and Florence Atwater, was first published in 1938.
In Third Grade, students read a wide variety of books. Other books like Magic Tree House, Polar Bears Past Bedtime, and Meet Kaya also made an appearance at the Literacy Fair.
The Literacy Fair is an annual tradition here at White City. This year's Literacy Fair was an excellent display of Third Grade reading skill.
