What fun we've had this year!! Yes, once in a while, we'll be doing some writing and one girl will ask if I can please do this or that so her hair won't be in her face. Next thing I know, I've braided four girls' hair.
Getting a bit more serious though, these girls have really worked hard. Here we are near the end of the third nine weeks period and all four have made their Accelerated Reading goal once again. The kindergarten through eighth grade students gathered in the Commons Area recently for the Dr. Suess's birthday grade finale. This class won the at home reading contest for the biggest percentage of minutes read.
Something else the class and I have been doing lately is dictionary work. Many times during the day a word will come up that the kids don't know. What a perfect time for the dictionaries to be used! They've learned about guide words, entry words and that there might be several different definitions for each word. Kids absolutely love to use the dictionary.
We've been doing a variety of reviews in math. Currently the actual lessons have been shapes and three dimensional figures, but we've reviewed money and two digit addition and subtraction. This is the part of the year that if things aren't reviewed there is some frustration due to simply forgetting.
I remain totally amazed at the writing these four have produced. They put their thoughts together well, remember their mechanics, and already understand paragraphing. It's not unusual during writing to hear someone ask if I can show them how to indent or "I need you to get me on a roll." What a joy these girls have been!
Parent/Teacher conferences are next week. They are Thursday (March 16) in the evening from 4-8 and Friday (March 17) morning from 8-12. If you have a preference just drop a note in your daughter's bookbag. I will do everything I can to make sure you get your preferred date and time. Until then, Moore News later.
