What's Happening in Middle School Math

by Vernetta Hammersmith

October 11, 2007

This year we have 90 minute classes. I had thought that filling up 90 minutes would be difficult. But since the beginning of the year the time just flies by during that time and we sometimes do not have enough time to finish! Each day we complete an ACE activity to prepare us for the state assessment and this year we have time to go over the activity and understand and learn the ideas behind them.

8th Math-So far the math in the 8th grade has been mostly a review. Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing with integers has been the focus. Equations, expressions, and inequalities are the newest vocabulary terms - and all are needed to go on to graphing! That will be fun!

A good web site to practice integers can be found at the bottom of this page.

7th Math- In the 7th grade we have also been reviewing at the beginning of the year. We will be starting adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing with integers. There are rules to learn and after we know the rules - they are easy!

A web site at the bottom of the page is helpful to work all the operations of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, not only for integers, but whole numbers as well.

6th Math- The sixth grade are reviewing multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals. We have to be careful where we put the decimal in our answers. Fractions will be coming soon and we will add, subtract, multiply, and divide them with ease.
