Welcome to K-6 Special Education.  My name is Heather Barkley, and this is my third year of teaching.  I went to Kansas Wesleyan University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Special Education.  I grew up in Salina, but now I live in Hope and really enjoy being in the small community. Everyone has made me feel very welcome!  This summer, I started working on my Master's Degree in Administration through Fort Hays.

My goal as a special education teacher is to meet the individual needs of all my students. I plan on incorporating my students into the general education classroom as much as possible this year with the assistance of my three Para-professionals; Dallas Friedli, Roberta Challans, and Denise Schlesener.  However, like always, this will not apply to every student. They will get the services that best meet their needs.

For new parents in the area; if your child receives special education, please make sure you let the office know so we can get their records and give them the appropriate services as soon as possible.  If you feel like your child needs some extra assistance and is struggling in school, please let your classroom teacher know and we can discuss possible interventions at a Student Improvement Team meeting.

I will do everything I can to ensure the success of your child. If you have any questions, please call me at 366-7221 or email me at heather.barkley@usd481.org
