Rural Vista Art Students Compete at Cloud County Community College Art Show

On Friday, April 13, the Hope and White City art students braved the spring weather and traveled to Concordia for the annual High School Art Show.

Twenty schools attended the event that was held at the Arley Bryant Gymnasium on the Concordia campus.  The show was open to the general public for viewing.  The students arrived and were responsible for setting up their own school's display for the judging.  The students then attended numerous workshops on printing, clay brick making, and art card trading.  Barbara Stevens CCCC art instructor stated that the show usually attracts 600 to 700 pieces of artwork; however, this year there was approximately 1,000 pieces displayed.

Ms. Prickett from the Salina Arts and Humanities Commission Community Art and Design Coordinator, judged the nearly 600 pieces of two-dimensional works and Ms. Schmitz, Concordia artist and former CCCC Art Department chair judged the 400 three-dimensional works of art.

Twenty-five gold medals were given to both the 3-D and 2-D Best of Show pieces.  First place, second place, and third place ribbons were also awarded.
