Rural Vista students present a check to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.

Communities Collaborate to Raise Funds for Disaster Relief

Total funds amount to $ 9,482.96

by Chris Kleidosty

November 11, 2005

USD 481 Rural Vista, with the schools of Hope and White City, have teamed with the local community and other Kansas schools to raise disaster relief funds for the American Red Cross. A check will be issued to a representative of the American Red Cross at an assembly at Hope school 10:30am, Friday, November 11.

A small idea from the Hope counselor and students turned into a big idea that involved hundreds of other students, schools and communities throughout Kansas. Initially, different grade levels were paired with one another and competed to see who could raise the most funds. White City joined the friendly competition to see who could raise the most funds among the Rural Vista school district in their quest to earn the ultimate pizza party. The idea of having one district raise funds for competition then grew to soliciting 1A school districts across the state of Kansas. The following schools raised funds for disaster relief:

Chetopa 536.02
Macksville 4,300.00
Palco 731.59
Rural Vista 3,776.25
Sylvan 139.10
